Re: 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment -Appomattox

Thank you for your history of the 5th Alabama Infantry. My great grandfather on my mother's side was among those who surrendered that day. He was Benjamin F. Jones. He was from the original 1,200 or so of those who volunteered in 1861 from Pickens County Alabama, was wounded and captured and returned to his regiment to be there at the end. My mother remembered, as a little girl, him telling her about the surrender and the anguish of the brave men who cried and tried to reach out to General Lee as he rode back through the ranks. It saddens me to think that there are those who would rewrite history to further their own agenda.
