I do not find any records of a man by that name in the North Sumpter Rifles, (Company A, 5th Alabama Battalion). The only man who matches the name is Corporal Fred Rumley, who enlisted in Mobile on Oct. 18,1861, in Company I, 24th Alabama Infantry (Confederate Guards). This matches information found on the grave marker of Fredric Gilbert Rumley in York Municipal Cemetery in Sumpter County.
