I am back on this site doing research on Owen Browning and found your post from 2017. My email is email@example.com. I am in regular contact with Mary Goins Clemmer or Gastonia, NC who is Owen Browning's 3rd great grand daughter. She provided me with both his service jackets. 1st TN-AL Independent Vidette Can, USV and in the 13th TN CAv. USA. 18 months ago I applied to get a memorial stone for him from the VA. Records Mary supplied streamlined the effort. In Jan. 2018 I received the stone and subsequently placed it on the grave of his wife Ona Sellers and daughter in the Liberty Hill Cemetery Woodland, Randolph County, AL near Wedowee.
I am working on Owen again because a friend with family in Clay and Randolph county, AL had a relative who enlisted in the 1st TN-AL Vidette Cavalry and was killed at the Skirmish at Hunt's Mill, AL. The same skirmish where Owen Browning was captured. Trying to determine connection between the two. They lived about 15 miles apart. The skirmish occurred couple of weeks after the unit was created; the men were inexperienced and i wonder is Owen was captured because he lingered when his fellow was wounded.
