Re: Stirman's Sharpshooters
In Response To: Re: Stirman's Sharpshooters ()

Thanks, Danny. That's some great research.

I had the date of rank for the officers of Stirman's Regiment (August 1, 1862), which I take to mean the date on which the regiment was formally organized.

Everything confirms the company composition of Stirman's Regiment, but I'm still trying to reconcile the Special Order of that date which ordered that "Major Bridges Bn of Sharpshooters will at once be consolidated with Lt Col Stirman’s Bn of Ark [dismounted] Cavalry and the whole to be under Lt Col Stirman as the Regiment of Sharpshooters for Phifer’s brigade," with the 9th Texas Cavalry adjutant's journal entry that Company H of the 9th Texas (and Co. I, 6th Texas Cavalry) was detached and attached to Stirman in July. Maybe he was indicating that the two companies were organized into a small battalion, and that the battalion was assigned to Stirman?

Many thanks for the information. You've helped more than you know.
