Re: Bridges' Battalion
In Response To: Bridges' Battalion ()

Danny, that's the same man. Co. I, 6th Texas Cavalry, was one of the companies that was detailed as sharpshooters. Bridges was the original captain of the company.

In addition to the Stirman's Battalion and the 6th Texas Cavalry, the 9th Texas Cavalry also operated in the Indian Territory before Pea Ridge. Co. H, 9th Texas Cavalry, was another company detailed as sharpshooters.

This is all starting to fall into place.

BTW, Danny, you asked about the collection of Ras Stirman's letters. I was pretty sure I had gotten a copy when it was first published, but it took me awhile to lay my hands on it. I found it tucked in one of my file drawers.

It doesn't say anything much about the organization of the sharpshooter regiment, but has some detailed letters about Wilson's Creek, Pea Ridge and other battles.

I really need to inventory and catalog all the stuff I've squirrelled away all these years.
