Hello Gentlemen: first of all, thank you for your interest in Col. Stirman. Joe is my brother and is also looking for information on Ras, as the family calls him. Col. Stirman is my husband's great-grandfather, whose youngest daughter ended up raising my mother-in-law. The book "In Fine Spirits" is indeed available at the Washington County Historical Society and can be ordered through their website. However, it does not contain a photo of Ras in uniform--the photos in there are all from other sources. We are interested in finding a uniform photo because in April 2005 my husband presented the historical society with Ras's Civil War swords, and now it would be nice to have a military uniform photo to place on the wall above the display case, etc. So I will let my husband know about those sites and wish us luck. The book is rather interesting reading, as it is Ras's letters to his sister Rebecca. The part I like is that no matter where he went, he organized a dance.
