As one who has hunted for relics (primarily camps) of the War for Southern Independence for over thirty years I may have become overly sensative about only reading negative reports about relic hunters on this and other forums. It seems that no matter what we do we are under constant attack from the archeological community.

The result of these attacks have caused many legitimate relic hunters to back off and not share valuable information with other researchers. Much of this knowledge will be carried to the grave rather than risk being labeled a relic hunter.

We have been called looters and grave robbers. Just recently a grave was dug up and a coffin and body removed from the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Park and the authorities are already accusing relic hunters of committing the crime.

At the same time when we contribute to WSI research we seldom get any credit.

Bryan, I never said that these sites shouldn't be studied because they have been disturbed. I was simply trying to point out that all information gleaned from these sites should be taken in context.

Stephen, if I came across as trying to attack you or any other individual involved in the Pea Ridge dig, I apologize. That was not my intention.

No good can come of chronically critisizing legitimate relic hunters who play by the rules.
