38th Arkansas Infantry

While rummaging around in my files, actually looking for something else, I ran across some documents relating to my gggrandfather, Reuben F. Segraves. It's routine army admin stuff -- request for leave, requests for quartermaster supplies, etc. -- but I thought someone might find them of interest. Here's one dealing with a request for leave of absence:

###

Co. “G”, Shaver’s Regiment,
5th Brigade, Price’s Division,
T.M.A., May 3d, 1863.

Lieut. Segraves has never been absent from comd a day since he joined & for the last 4 months has had entire comd of his company and to my personal knowledge his family is in a very critical condition, and demand his attention for a few days, besides he pledges himself to use his influence to get as many absentees to their Comd as he possibly can. Therefore, I beg that leave of absence be granted him for at least 30 days.

JOHN R. WELLS,
Capt. Co. “G”.
