According to the diary of Maj. John A. Bering (48th Ohio, www.48ovvi.org) he was captured at Mansfield, LA and sent to Tyler, TX, Washington, AR and later to Camden, AR. He describes being held in a large building while in Camden. Does anyone have any idea where this Yankee POW Camp might have been located? I'm betting on cotton warehouses near the Ouachita River.....while talking about the camp he says there was a hole in the center of the roof that allowed cooking smoke to escape and that they had only river water to drink.
Thanks,
