It would seem that there certainly was more Cotton yard goods manufactured than there was wool from these records. I am beginning to believe that the Cotton "Prentice Uniform" was far more common than we would think today within the reenacting community. Especially West of the Mississippi.

This poorer clothing might explain some of the suffering of the Confederate soldiers due to weather during the Arkansas Post expedition in January 1863. Certainly wool yard goods would have been used for other articles of military useage such as blankets.
