I teach at N.B. Cook Elementary School in Pensacola, FL. The school is named for Nathan Burrell Cook, a Civil War veteran from Lowndes County, Alabama. He served in the 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company M. Could he be your N.B. Cook?

After the war, Mr. Cook moved to Pensacola, FL and served as superintendent of schools from 1884-1913.
