I volunteered Pea Ridge and had the great honor of working with Doug for 11 years. He was a true friend and a great mentor. He constantly amazed me with his intellect. He was a professional in every sense of the word. While he enjoyed studying the Civil War, his true passion was the Indian Wars. He could tell you anything and everything about Custer and the 7th Cavalry. I have a stack of books that he gave me over the years on that period. I also have a list of books that he recommended that I still need to get.

They had a nice ceremony for Doug out at Pea Ridge last April. Later, they had a small private ceremony for him at Little Bighorn. He loved his family and was as good a friend as you could find. You are very right, we have lost a wonderful historian.
