The Arkansas Historical Quarterly is a good source, as is the Confederate Veteran---both of which can be found at the University of Central Arkansas-the have a great Archives room
Also-you might try local (county) historical societies
and the Central Arkansas Library System-can be accessed (i think) on the internet
