The 'New Orleans Bee' dated 9 Jul 1861 reports the following from the 'Memphis Appeal' dated 7 Jul 1861:-

"...General McCulloch took up his line of march from Fort Smith to Fayetteville a few days since. His command consisted of 5000 Confederate troops, 800 Choctaw indians and a company of half-breed Cherokees, 80 strong, commanded by Chief George Johnson."

Does anyone have any further information on Chief George Johnson, or suggest where I could look?
