Re: Captured at Hickory Plains, 1864

Linda, thanks again for the information. I put in for an interlibrary loan & should have "Rebel's Hell" next week.
My interest in these Confederate POW's comes from studying my ancestors regiment, the 8th Missouri Cavalry (US). Very little has been written, nor is there much information available about the scouts & operations they took part in during the years 1864-65. I began to make note of when & where they took prisoners, hoping if I found out more about the prisoners I might learn more about whatever action they had been captured in. It pays off in small ways. For instance during an expedition to Augusta April 20-22, 1864, there was little fighting, but a CSA Colonel was captured. A wounded soldier was also taken. The expeditions commander, Col. Andrews, sent word back he would need an ambulance for a wounded prisoner. A search of the Gerdes site shows that a Pvt. John Huddleston of Freeman's Regt. was wounded & captured in Woodruff co. April 21st 1864. So that puts a name on a brief mention in a report.
Thanks again.
