Thanks but the articles show to be something like 42 and 37 pages respectively. That's fairly short for battles of this size--more like pamphlet length or what one typically finds in detailed campaign books. I would expect something more like 80-100 pages for a good start on a battle monograph. (McManus' "Cloyds Mountain" at 107 pages is a good representative of solid coverage of a battle of this scale--and off the beaten path.)
I have several of Bearss' books (Wilson's Creek, Steele's Retreat from Camden, Forrest at Brice's Crossroads, and Battle of Five Forks) but not his 3 volume Vicksburg set yet.
