You're in luck! Page 132 of Barnhill's book has a photo (?) of him, as well as well as his 3 sons (taken in old age): David White Knox, James Finley Knox II, and Joe Knox, probably from the 1950s. James' body was never found. Somewhere in my records I have photocopies of photos taken at a memorial service for him, sent to me by a relative (I'd have to look up her name and address).

James was the eldest brother of my greatgrandfather, John H Knox. James was born in 1836 in TN, and married Martha Blankenship. His brother David Absalom joined him in battle, and was captured at Stones River, where the brothers lost a cousin, James A Knox. James may have been a POW too.

James' parents were Joseph William Knox and Esther Evaline Templeton. His grandfather, John Knox, fought at the 1815 Battle of New Orleans. (I don't know how far back you have the history--I have back to 1740).

After the war, David Absalom and John H left for the Texas frontier (in 1876). I have much more info. Contact me if you're interested at karl_gustafson@msn.com (new address).
