Here is the background. My 3rd great grandfather Oscar Dunlap served with the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (union) (along with his brother). Any way would like for you to view the photo on the link in this message and I need someone to ID the badge that he is wearing on his vest. I know the picture is not all that clear but that is all I have. I have searched far and wide trying to find a reference for this but have been unable to find any info on it. I think that the part at top is crossed sabres which would represent cavalry. But I am not sure and I don't have a clue what the 5 pointed star on bottom represents. If no one here can answer this I am going to the University of Oklahoma history dept and see if they can ID it as that I live just down the road from there.
