Re: Arkansas Peace Society
In Response To: Arkansas Peace Society ()

Hey, Mark --

Down sick again, but wanted to post a quick response. Yes, sir, I have a few lists relating to the Peace Society. The "Yaller Rag Boys" who were brought down in a sort of chain-gang from Searcy County to Little Rock in December 1861 were suspected Peace Society members who were kindly permitted to "volunteer" for service in Companies I & K, 18th (Marmaduke's) Arkansas Regiment (later redesignated 3rd Confederate Infantry Regiment). This list is posted on the Gerdes page.

I also have a couple of somewhat more comprehensive lists of suspected Peace Society members which do not state whether or not the men were pressed into Confederate service, but I did enter the Peace Society information on each man's individual service record in my database. If you're interested in specific names, I can run a search for them.

I'll be "off the picket line and in convalescent quarters" for at least another week or two -- got a case of bronchitis that turned into pneumonia. Making good improvement daily, though.
