Re: 2nd ARK Cavalry Company I ???

Thanks, John. That information confirms other records I've found. All this information indicates to me that the Ashley Rangers were detached from the 13th Louisiana Battalion about June 1864, in order to beef up the 2nd Arkansas Cavalry for the upcoming Missouri Campaign. When the army returned from Missouri, I believe the Ashley Rangers returned to the 13th Louisiana Battalion. Everything seems to point in that direction, but I wish I could locate an order or letter that would lock it in.

Incidentally, the Ashley Rangers were organized at Hamburg on July 11, 1862, composed mostly of men from Ashley County, along with several men from Union County. Interestingly, none of these men were conscripts, unlike other companies formed about that time -- they were all volunteers.
