Arkansas Units and Indian Territory

My ggg-granduncle, Isaac P. Howell was a private in the 4th Arkansas Infantry, Company I. He does not appear on the rolls of this unit after early '62. This unit was recruited in Polk County, AR.

Just recently, in Emmet Starr's "History of the Cherokee..." I've found an Isaac Howell in a company roll thought to be a part of the 2nd Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Adair's Regiment). I believe this is my uncle, as he was definitely in the Indian Territory by 1870, according to other records and is included on the "Dawes Roll" as an inter-married white to Rebecca WOODS Howell who was a Cherokee.

If anyone knows of other connections between the 4th Arkansas personnel and the Indian Territory, I'd be interested in hearing from you. Also, it would appear that if your ancestor was a member of a Western Arkansas Confederate unit early in the war and "disappears" from the rolls it might be worthwhile to check Indian Territory units for his possible continuing service.
