Re: Tulip
In Response To: Tulip ()

Cindy:

There was no battle at Tulip, but the town was directly in the path of the Federal and Confederate armies during the Federal retreat from Camden in the last week of April 1864, and the Confederates' pursuit of the Yanks up to the Saline River crossing at Jenkins' Ferry. Churchill's and Parsons' Divisions camped there briefly on April 29 before moving up the Old Camden Road to the river crossing (present day Leola); Walker's Texas Division camped at Princeton and moved through Tulip and continued on to Jenkins Ferry without stopping to visit.

After the battle, the Confederate army moved back through Tulip to go into camp to refit and recuperate at Princeton.
