All four men served in the Confederate army before joining the 3rd Arkansas (Union) Cavalry.

Abraham Oliver enlisted in Co. F, 36th Arkansas Infantry, CSA, at Springfield, Arkansas, June 18, 1862; age 31, born in Tennessee. He was dropped from the rolls for desertion, and enlisted in Co. L, 3rd Arkansas Cavalry, U.S. Volunteers, at Little Rock, Arkansas, January 8, 1864; age 33, born in Washington County, Tennessee; eyes black, hair light, complexion sandy, height 5'8½", occupation farmer. He was promoted to corporal, then sergeant, and was mustered out of service at Little Rock at the end of the war.

Henry Oliver enlisted in Co. C, 31st Arkansas Infantry, CSA, at Springfield, Arkansas, March 8, 1862; age 22, born in Tennessee; eyes black, hair red, complexion fair, height 5'8", occupation farmer; dropped from the rolls for desertion, June 30, 1863. He next enlisted in Co. L, 3rd Arkansas Cavalry, U.S. Volunteers, at Little Rock, Arkansas, January 8, 1864; age 22, born in Washington County, Tennessee; eyes black, hair red, complexion light, height 5'8½", occupation farmer. He was mustered out of service at Little Rock at the end of the war.

Richmond Oliver enlisted in Co. A, 4th Battalion Arkansas Infantry, CSA, at Little Rock, Arkansas, September 22, 1861; age 40, born in Tennessee; eyes dark, hair black, complexion dark, height 6'0", occupation farmer. He was discharged for being over the conscript age at Camp Ingraham, Mississippi, in June 1862; age 41. He next enlisted in Co. K, 3rd Arkansas Cavalry, U.S. Volunteers, at Little Rock, Arkansas, November 15, 1863; age 42, born in Warren County, Tennessee; eyes blue, hair dark, complexion fair, height 5'10", occupation farmer. He was promoted to corporal, then sergeant, and died in a hospital at Little Rock, Arkansas, on March 21, 1865.

William Oliver enlisted in Co. C, 31st Arkansas Infantry, CSA, at Springfield, Arkansas, March 8, 1862; age 24, born in Tennessee; eyes black, hair red, complexion fair, height 5'8"; occupation farmer. He was left behind sick in Arkansas when the regiment was ordered east of the Mississippi River. He was reported absent sick, west of the Mississippi, on April 30, 1862; and was dropped from the rolls. In the meantime, he enlisted in Co. F, 36th Arkansas Infantry, CSA, at Springfield, Arkansas, June 18, 1862. The muster roll states that he formerly belonged to a "regiment now east of the Mississippi River". He was dropped from the rolls for desertion, and enlisted in Co. L, 3rd Arkansas Cavalry, at Little Rock, Arkansas, January 8, 1864; age 24, born in Washington County, Tennessee; eyes blue, hair light, complexion light, height 5'7", occupation farmer. He was reportedly "killed by guerrillas near Quitman, Arkansas, March 26, 1864".
