Thomas David Martin Sr

I am a decendant of Thomas David Martin Sr who served with Company I of the 1st Arkansas Artillery Battery and died of typhoid in Nashville, TN on March 3, 1862 at the Female Acadamy Hospital. All I can find out on this unit so far is that they were fighting in Arkansas at Pea Ridge that same week. Any ideas how Thomas Martin Sr or his son Thomas David Martin Jr (who served in the same unit, and died the same day of the same desease in the same hospital) came to be in Nashville? The only possibility I can come up with is that they were assigned to Ft Donelson, just north of Nashville, that fell about a week or so before they died, but I can't find any record of their unit being assigned there (there was an Arkansas Infantry unit there). I do know that the Union took control of Nashville within days of their death, so it is possible they were already prisoners and came to Nashville with the Union Army. But I can't see them being captured in Arkansas or MO and being carried to Nashville by the Feds. Any help would be appriciated
