Need information on Camp Caldwell-Mazzard Prarie

I am looking for information on a batallion stationed at Camp Caldwell-Mazzard Prarie in June of 1864.
My gggg grandfather William Chapman Barnes or W.C. Barnes or Chap Barnes was in a group called the "1st Battalion Independant Rangers" and was camped at this location at this time. He was involved in an accidental shooting at this camp and a trial took place. I know that these other groups were also there as they gave testimony at the trial. There was:
Milton Aldridge -Private Co I 1st Ark
W.A. Sorrels-Private Co B 2nd Kansas Cav.
Lieut. Watts-in Capt. Robbins Co Independant Rangers
Morgan B. Barnes-Hacketts Co. 2nd Ark Cav.
1st Lieut. G. or J. Crosby? Co D. Independant Rangers
Lieut. C. Cagle Co. B. Independant Rangers.
I have looked in Missouri and cannot find the
"Independant Rangers" anywhere!! I am desperately hoping someone can help me find info.on this group and my gggg gpa
My gggg grandfather lived and raised his family in Sebastian County from 1849-until his death. Thank you so much for your help and your time!!!
