Thanks! You might be interested to know that, in researching the 26th Ark. Inf., I came accross a handful of entries in the Compiled Service Records indicating the subject infantrymen had been assigned to Hughey's battery on Sept. 1, 1863 - the day of Devil's Backbone. I sure wish I knew when, that is, if the assignment preceded the action, took place during the action, or occurred to facilitate Cabell's retreat.

I agree - Tom's done a great job compiling this list. I don't think I've ever seen a list like this. If the intent is to just include regular units, Woodruff should be excluded; but like you, I don't have reason to doubt him, and I've found at least one other tidbit supporting his account.
