Greg, that I don't know. William F. Avera's postwar account says only that the battery was "outfitted by the proprietors of the Memphis Appeal". This "outfit" may have involved everything but guns (horses, mules, harness, caissons, staffs, sponges, etc.), because according to what Jim McGhee found in Gen. M. Jeff. Thompson's order-book, the battery's first guns were obtained from the Missouri State Guard.
