Black Erastus L Maj STAFF Enl. 20Mar 1862 in Phillips Co, AR. Age 29, born AL. Promoted to Maj 11Sep1862 at Saltfield, MS when the 23rd, 14th and 12th AR consolidated. Sent to Port Hudson, LA 28Feb1863. Captured at Port Hudson, LA July 9, 1863 and sent to prison on the Steamer "Imperial" on 18Jul 1863. NOTE; He was educated particularly at Military School, Fredonia, AL. 15 Jan 1863 petition addressed to Jefferson Davis requesting the promotion of Col. John Logan 11th Ark Inf, to the rank of Brig Gen. Arrived at Cairo, IL 29 Jul 1863, was sent to Sandusky, OH POW Depot and was transferred to Baltimore, MD 9Feb1864, arrived at Johnson's Island, OH 14Feb1864 from Point Lookout, MD. Was exchanged 10Mar1864. Was in hospital #4 at Richmond, VA with rheumatism, 20Mar1864 to 20Apr1864. Paroled 25May1865 at Wittsburg, AR
