I agree that certainly would make more sense, but I ordered my GGG Grandfather's entire military record from Broadfoot's Soldier Search. That is were I obtained the May 20th death date, it was signed by a John Laurence.
I was grateful to have receive those documents because it included confirmation that he was an exchanged POW before joining the 6th in May of 1863.
Originally, I was able to track him from Daviess Co. to enlisting in Ray Co. 8/62 by Lt Davis, being arrested 10/62 in Clinton Co., and sent to Gratiot Street Prison (10/62-4/63). He was part of a prison exchange in Washington D.C. 4/63. Also, included was his parole document from Vicksburg.
Perhaps you or someone else may know why he would have enlisted in Ray Co. and not Daviess' Co.?
