Good stuff. It would seem that the paraphrased transcription in my previous post did indeed refer to the 2nd and 3rd Arkansas cavalry regiments.
I only did a cursory check on the names and that is where I came up with the same Barnett name in a Florida reserve regiment. After furthur digging, I have found information in my files on the Arkansas Barnett and his cavalry battalion.
You are so right about piecing together the various individual contributions allowing us to see a more complete picture. Jim Martin certainly does us all a great service with these boards.
Several years ago, I collected some really useful stuff from hurried day trips to the National Archives. Unfortunately, my handwriting is very poor--especially when rushed, so that I'm not always able to get the full benefit of my own notes.
I seem to agonize over my handwritten notes about as much as I did trying to decipher the various handwriting styles in the Confederate records--especially if on microfilm.
So many students of the Confederacy could benefit if some of the inventory of RG 109 could be made available online. Like that's going to happen.
