Well, since there was no enrolled militia in Arkansas with regimental designations of any continuity, we wanted to continue to track through "1st Arkansas'" The 153rd Inf was the old 1st Ark of Span Am War. So we had to go back through State organizatons and that is why the 15th aka 1st Ark Inf State troops. We also hope to continue it back through the 1st Ark Mtd Vols (Mexican War) and the 1st Ark Vaols (1836 Indian Wars). It is a tough sell to CMH. We have to show a continuity with community more so than unit designation, so geography of the companies and/or soldiers who served from one period to the next is of extreme importance. Of course CMH sort of takes into account the Reconstruction years, or Guard units across the South would be unable to have any lineage past the 1880's much. We have a MAJ back in DC who is our Natl Archives researcher and front man and he has done an excellent job so far. We pump him info and he works the buracracy for us.
