Shellie, I might add that not only did a great many Arkansas men join Missouri regiments, but men from the southern border counties also served in Louisiana and Texas regiments, and some of the western border county men joined outfits in the Indian Territory. The common factor is that most volunteers didn't travel very far to enlist. If the nearest recruiting company was camped five miles away in northern Lousiana, they tended to join that one rather than travel 15 miles to join the nearest recruiting Arkansas company.
