Stephen, that's the same man. He was at home sick when the 19th Arkansas was captured at Arkansas Post in January 1863, and enlisted in the 2nd Arkansas Infantry U.S.V. in December 1863.

In my database there are 34 Arkansas Confederate and Union soldiers named Looper/Luper. All of them are from western and northwestern Arkansas.
