Re: 17th Arkansas Regiment, No. 1

Anthony, I sure didn’t intend to take anything away from John L. Logan. I should have mentioned him, since he was in command of the 11th & 17th Arkansas for about ten months, and was a top-notch commanding officer.

When I decided to post brief sketches of regiments with the same numerical designations, my intention was merely to post just enough information to enable folks to distinguish one regiment from another. I figured I could save researchers a few mis-steps, and that they could go on and research their favorite regiments in more detail on their own. It would take me forever to try to write a detailed, stand-alone regimental history for each, and I was concerned enough that someone might think I was short-changing a regiment or an officer, that I thought long and hard about it before proceeding. Perhaps it would have been better if I had preceded all these posts with a statement of intent, such as—"Following are a series of posts which are intended to help other researchers....etc." and explain why they are necessarily brief.
