Re: 17th Arkansas Regiment, No. 1

Well, not neccassarily so. When a large portion were furloughed home a while (after Logan came back west) an order was produced (somewhere in Ark) telling them to report to Logan. Many did so and did not return to Griffith. Logan commanded a Cav bde and there is a confusing 11th Ark Cav (sometimes called 11th Inf) which housed many 11th Ark Inf guys, and then along with Poe's Bn made of many paroled 11th Ark from Port Hudson, it can be confusing. I find it hard sometimes to determine who returned east of the Miss and who stayed here. An example is CPT A. A. Crawford. It seems like he went back east but an officer signed a requisition on some corn in Saline county in late 1864 and he listed his unit as Gus Crawford's command. My G Grandpa applied for a pension. He stated he served as a volunteer the last 2 years in Gus Crawford's command and my G Grandpa served entirely here in Arkansas, mainly Saline Co. Now according to his daughter's info, he served as a bushwhacker with a Sanders Crawford or what looks like Santeer Crawford (handwriting isn't real legible) So as you can see the 11th is not completely out of the woods when it comes to clear lineage and unit locations.
