Doyle and Bryan:
Thanks for the info. So, even though Benton's name is listed on Frost's Mo Adjuntant Report, (which I'm trying to locate)this would still not be enough to request his military marker to be placed at Sulphur Springs? Alvin Musgrave is Benton's younger brother born 08-10-1841. Like Francis Marion, Alvin later joins the Union. He joined the 1st Mo Calvary, co B & D. Like you guys, I believe that Benton enlisted with the rest of our family in Polk county & would have been assigned to the 19th, Dawson's. According to the record in James "Anderson" Musgrave's Bible, he wrote that Benton died on 09-18-1862 at Sulphur Springs. No other information was written in the Bible. It doesn't say if he died of disease or wounded in battle like some of his other children; mainly Rufus "murdered on lil Mesera". I just find it disheartening that there are other soldiers who are listed as being in Dawson's & their military information is there, whether they deserted, died, etc. Some of their records pre-date Benton's death. I take it there are not any hospital records for Sulphur Springs during that time of Benton's death?
