It's somewhat of a consolation to know that others have experienced the occasional frustration of searching the Archives. I just presumed I was naturally inclined to be awkward with their system and processes.

Interesting that you mentioned misfiled and poorly inventoried. On one of my annual day trips, I asked for a certain Pemberton file by its identification in both guide books to the Archives.

What was delivered carried the same number, but the subject matter and content was something entirely different. I pointed this out to the staff at the desk.

The next year, I was given the exact same materials that I had advised them was misfiled. Never did get that file.

It was unrealistic to expect the proper file could have been found in the course of the one day I had available. I feel sure their staff is overwhelmed and under appreciated.
