Doyle-Thanx for the clarification-I recall from your past posts the mention of the approach of the federal gunboats.
My g-ggrandfather would (by process of elimination and association) beeen one of the 200 left behind and I guess my (mistaken)impression was they panicked and "scattered" what you described was more of an "organized" retreat.I was always curious, under the circumstances of the decimation of thier regiment why they didn't just go home-but obviously through the discipline and leadership of their officers they simply withdrew to Pine Bluff. A minor point-to be sure-but (in my mind at least) g-ggrandaddys honour is upheld. The trans-miss. soldier is often portrayed as undisciplined and certainly there was some evidence of that on the retreat from Little Rock and later in the war-but I'm often amazed at the professionalism exibited by the Arkansas soldier in the face of much adversity and deprivation. Thanx for your tireless work Doyle!
