Interesting.
The thing with Sterling Price is that his men liked/loved/repected him. He was already in his 60's during the war. Price had lived a fairly good life and served his state with distinction in earlier years. So, when the war came along the folks from Missouri willingly followed him.
The irony of the situation is that he tried his best to get Missouri to stay with the Union and then went with the CSA when Missouri did.
Sterling Price was so highly repected that when his wife was fleeing to Texas, the state sent out an escort party to meet the lady.
You are looking from the present back in time and not from the past forward which may have given you a differnet slant.
My kin always took pride of having served with Price.
Truth be told, grandpas and favorite uncles are just hard to resist
Since Price was nicknamed Pap, I think that might give you some insight.
Perhaps not what you expected but simply how I feel about the deal.
