My John Bookout was not Confederate to my knowledge, however , with conditions as they were at the time, makes me wonder how he could have not been involved in some way prior to 1863. I do know he was the one who enlisted at age 45 in 1863, and that his widow was granted a pension in the 1880s. There is no record of his burial in Pope County where the family was living in 1865, and I can't find him at Little Rock. He could be one of the unidentified there.
I will check the references both of you have given me.
