Thanks to all for such prompt and informative responses. I noted Gray's passing reference to Geoghegan but was (and still am) mystified by the absence of any mention of Geoghegan in Confederate after action reports. Normally such reports include comments to the effect that Lt. Col. Jones carried on nobly after the death of Col. Smith.
