As I pointed out the authors of the biographies embillished the truth, some times beyond belief, such as my g,grandfather <hhtp://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/labette/1901/f/florja.shtml> who was in Kans Militia for only Oct 1864 near Mine Creek when Sterling Price came to take Ft Scott after his trip from Princeton, AR (breaking bread with Virginia (Davis) GRAY, w/o O C GRAY), to MO and across to KS, where Marmaduke and Cabell were captured. His bio had his name spelled correct and that was ALL, had him an Indian scout in Colo, Wyo, Kans, for three years in some unknown Union group, yet he & his oldest brother served one month in the Militia when they were forced to serve, their other brother was in the 7th Kans Cav, Co C at the same, site same time! His daughter married Capt Oliver Crosby Gray of Co A, 3rd Ark Cav,, CSA, (president St Johns' College, 1871-1874) son in 1886.
