David, I'm always glad to help out a fellow researcher.

I researched the companies of McCarver's 14th Arkansas pretty intensely several years ago, trying to clean up the overlaid attributes of Power's 14th Arkansas that had muddied up the picture over the years. In so doing, I verified the "home counties" of all ten companies through several sources, including the 1860 census, 1863 county rolls of families of indigent soldiers, Goodspeed's Historical Memoirs of Arkansas, Confederate pension files, etc. As a result, here is a firm list of the companies --

Co. A—Izard county
Co. B—Izard county
Co. C—Izard county
Co. D—Izard county
Co. E—Izard county
Co. F—Sharp county
Co. G—Lawrence county
Co. H—Izard county
Co. I—Sharp county
Co. K—Woodruff county

Note: In the case of Cos. F-I-K I've listed the modern counties, since that's probably more helpful. In 1861, those areas were part of Lawrence (Cos. F-I) and Jackson/St. Francis (Co. K) counties.

I recall doing the same thing with Desha's Battalion. I'll dig through my stuff and post that company/county list as soon as I find it.

I'm really looking forward to your posts on the 8th Arkansas Regiment. I have always intended to do some serious research on the regiment, but keep getting sidetracked on other regiments.
