R. Kirk, Gillum's Regt.

I am trying to find out something about a group called Gillum's Regt.
I am a member of the Lonoke County Museum which has come in possesion of a diary of a R. Kirk who was with Gillum's Regt. It appears the group spent the end of the war in Texas.
My friend is currently trying to piece together some information on this man. According to a will, it appears that R. Kirk died in 1871.
I tried checking the Gerdes site and I did find a R. A. Kirk who was with the 50th Arkansas Militia which appears to have lasted for two days to fight at Pea Ridge(?) and that was it.
Was this R. Kirk the same man as R. A. Kirk? Was he down around Tyler, Texas when the war ended and what other information is there that is available on this man?
Thanks-
Linda
