Re: guerillas, partisans, bushwhackers in the nort

Joe, I hope this information helps.
I was able to go back and research Lawrence County Historical Quarterlies (Lawrence County, Arkansas). In Volume 6 Number 3 Summer 1983, a reprint of "Lawrence County Landmark" an article by Joseph G. Taylor appears.
Due to the name of the article, and that it does not directly relate to the Civil War, this article is often missed by researchers.
however it sheds a lot of light on the difficult times of people on the homefront during the War.
In this article Mr. Taylor relates stories of "Jayhawkers" stealing and robbing Lawrence County men, and of the formation of a "regulating band" who regulated a few of the jayhawkers. the article lists the "Regulators" by name. It lists names of victims, what was taken, that two Lawrence County men (Father and son named Howard) were killed by jayhawkers.
The article states some were captured, and were claimimg to be Union Soldiers. They were taken to Union authorities in Batesville, and then gaining freedom by signing oath of allegiance, the jayhawkers returned to Lawrence County.
apparently according to the article, several of these men were "regulated" upon their return to Lawrece County.
