Re: guerillas, partisans, bushwhackers in the nort

Joe, another article "William Edward and Martha Judkins Moore" (Lawrence County Historical Quarterly Volume 10 Number 4 Fall 1987) contains aditional information regarding "Jayhawkers in Lawrence County". The article actually quotes and excerpt from Walter McCleod's Book, "Cenntenial Memorial History of Lawrence County".
"They (Jayhawkers) were sometimes attacked by daring but impudent persons. If their attackers escaped, they might take vengeance on some innocent person. On one occasion, Whit Wasson and Charlie Moore... shot at a bunch of Jayhawkers near the home of William Moore. They escaped but the Jayhawkers, angered went to the home of Mr. Moore..."
According to the rest of the story, Mr. Moore was home on sick leave from the Confederate Army, and he was abl to convince the Jayhawkers he had nothing to do with the shooting.
