Don't feel bad, Justin. I think I have a valid claim to the title of King of Wild Goose Chases. In the course of my research, I can't count the number of leads I've pursued, only to come up empty-handed. Well, that's not entirely true -- I've probably learned more details about the Civil War from chasing phantom clues than I ever would have otherwise. That's why I've adopted the pack-rat method of documentation -- save every snippet of information I come across, in the hope that it'll save another researcher from thrashing around in the boondocks the way I have.
