Hello. I know that many more artifacts have been found in recent times.
The museum has a sword that was found in the general area many years ago by a man farming the area. That was donated by his widow in recent years.
For the number of artifacts that continue to surface, there was probably more activity than people realize.
I did know that the sutler was named Legatt but that was only because a researcher had shared that with me.
Where you are speaking of-(the ball park)- and where I am speaking of-(HIcks Station)- is less than a quarter mile apart just a little bit east of there.
Hicks Station and Brownsville were different places is what we have always been led to believe. I know and can tell that the railroad ran through the old Hwy 70 heading east.
The settlement of Brownsville and the courthouse which stood there at that time was at least 3 miles away from where you searched. It is the general held opinion that while the Union troops refered to it as Brownsville, it was not the true Brownsville.
Having read some of the diaries, etc. that some of the Union men wrote, I have been led to believe that the Union troops took use of the railroad tracks running their supplies and some men to the end of the rail at that point.
I know there was a cemetery there also. I have been told in the past that the men were all moved to Little Rock to the National Cemetery. In trying to track them down, not all of the men showed up probably due to careless markings. It is also possible that someone may have had their son shipped home for burial.
We are always interested in new information on the Civil War times as it relates to this area. The Museum does have a diorama showing the battle of Brownsville.
