Oh yes, all have been so helpful. It has also been quite interesting.
The Lonoke County Museum is on Front Street in Lonoke on the old Hwy 70 actually, about two miles from where all this was happening. It is also just off the interstate and easy to find. We also happen to be sitting on a hot bed of history. The museum phone number there is 501-676-6750.
To be honest, I never was very interested until I found out that my own gg grandfather with the 36th Arkansas would have marched through here after the Battle of Helena.
The musuem has a diorama of the Battle of Brownsville among other things including some photos of mostly local men who served during the Civil War. Everything at the museum is a work in progress. The Native Amercian room is the latest effort and it is really taking shape. The window displays are also quite interesting and we get lots of postive comments.
I am still working for a living but when I retire next year then I plan to be a volunteer there. If someone finds that he or she is headed this way and wants to stop, the welcome mat is always out and the coffee pot is usually on. There is no charge but donations are welcome.The museum is strictly ran by volunteers with Mrs. Sherryl Miller being the guiding force.
