Location of 11th and 17th in August, 1863

I am trying to determine where E. C. Malone of Co. G, Consolidated 11th and 17th Arkansas Infantry would have been from the notations on the last entry on his service record. The entry on the company muster roll is for the period Dec. 31, 1862 to April 30, 1863, but there is also the notation "dated Aug. 17, 1863." He was "absent sick at hospital" on this card. Does this mean he was sick as of April 30, or that he was sick as of August 17? I have been searching for his location in April, but I am wondering if I should be looking for the location of the 11th and 17th in August of 1863 to try to determine where he was last listed on the muster roll. He disappeared from the records then, and he never returned home. I had almost come to the conclusion that he may have died near Clinton, LA, and was possibly buried in the Confederate cemetery there, but now I am questioning that. Thanks for any help with this.
